 ORGANIZATION HISTORY

The company was founded in 1954 to provide forestry management, engineering and surveying services to the timber industry in the western United States.  The primary focus has long been towards timber cruising and forestland inventory, which provides the basis for most forestry related tasks.  Additionally, Jackson & Prochnau has a long history of timberland appraising, timberland management and forest engineering.  

 

 

The company has completed many major timber inventory, appraisal, engineering, and management projects   throughout   the   western   U.S.A., Alaska, Hawaii and the Russian Far East - Siberia.  Clients include forest product companies, investors, small private landowners, absentee owners, export trading companies, contractors, timberland insurers, financial institutions, and the legal profession and government agencies. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The business was first established in Albany, Oregon and originally known as Gibson, Jackson & Prochnau.  James W. Prochnau became President in 1959 and managed the company over the next 40 years.  In 1985 a second office was established in Olympia, Washington.  Currently, Steven W. Prochnau is the company President and runs operations from Olympia.  He is an Oregon State Forest Engineer graduate and Certified General Appraiser in Washington and Oregon.  Partner, Vice-President David C. Gibson manages the original office in Albany, Oregon.  Having two separate operation bases has proven to be a most effective means of serving our clientele while maintaining a forestry staff that is able to accept and complete large project
